In the month of August, lotus flowers are in full bloom on the lakes of Mantua, Italy. The flowers' dense pink color rapidly turn into whitish under the strong sun. The huge leaves resist longer: some float on the waters' surface, while others stand tall against the sky.

Legend tells the lotus' seeds have been brought to the lakes during the 18 Century, and that the God of the Leaves came along with them.  When intruders disturb his peace, he's often seen as an elusive shadow on the biggest leaves.
